I haven't really tested this Mic. out thoroughly yet. I did test it out to see if it worked. The sonic clarity seems to be very good although I never had a original
U87 to compare. I will agree with the one review that it seems like you have to turn it up a extra 10 db on the preamp to hear anything. I was using a Steinberg UR-RT2 and that was half way up on the vol. knob. If this matches the original design so be it. I just tested a acoustic guitar and the mic placement wasn't exactly where it should of been. Haven't tested the vocals yet but overall it seems to be a good Mic. for the money. I like the wooden box it comes in.
